Brierley Brothers Limited is a highly successful wool spinning company established in 1896 in Huddersfield, West Yorkshire.
Over the last hundred years Brierley Brothers gained a reputation for producing quality yarns. In 2001 the company acquired the Scottish woollen yarn spinning business, Gardiner of Selkirk, to enhance their production operations.
Today, the company continues to develop, drawing on its heritage and traditional values of quality workmanship, whilst incorporating modern innovations to deliver the highest quality yarns across the UK and overseas.
In 2022 we were approached by the directors to help reduce their energy costs following the recent hikes in global energy prices.
Following a detailed site survey we proposed a combined heat and power (CHP) system. Their heating and electricity is now powered by an 140kW generator powered by natural gas, which is 91% efficient and runs almost silently.
The CHP provides all the electricity the company requires and the ‘waste’ heat from the production of electricity is used to provide heating and hot water across the site.
The CHP system will be paid back within two years, with an annual cost saving of 55% compared to their previous energy bills.
