Simon Blagden CBE appointed as chairman

The directors of Levercor Energy Systems are pleased to announce the appointment of Simon Blagden CBE to the role of chairman.

Simon brings 35 years’ experience in the IT, telecoms and digital industries, and for 14 years he was non-executive chairman at Fujitsu Telecommunications Europe — during which time he attracted £3.5 billion of inward investment to the UK.

His career started at GEC where he was international commercial manager. In 1991 he joined Quante AG as UK managing director and then joined the main board in 1995 as CEO, managing worldwide operations.

Simon joined Johannesburg-based Spescom, in 2000, where as CEO he headed up their international telecoms and IT business.

For UK government, Simon was the first permanent appointed chair of Building Digital UK with the responsibility of delivering the government’s strategy of achieving full fibre broadband and 4G coverage across the UK.

Simon was also non-executive director of the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) Advisory Board and chair of the government’s Telecoms Supply Chain Diversification Advisory Board (ensuring future telecoms security).

He was previously a director of the government’s Apprenticeship Delivery Board and a member of the expert panel advising government on technical and professional education – recommending the introduction of “T-Levels”.

In 1997 Simon was appointed MBE for services to export and was appointed CBE in 2016 for services to the economy.

Along with his new role with Levercor Energy Systems, Simon currently serves as a member of the Trade Advisory Group at the Department for Business and Trade, and as industry chair of the Parliamentary ICT Forum.

Commenting on Simon’s appointment Joe Anwyl, CEO at Levercor Energy Systems, said: “We are delighted to welcome Simon on board. His extensive business experience will play a significant role in providing strategic direction for the company and will be pivotal for the future growth of the company.”
