Kerax, Chorley

We were commissioned by Chorley-based Kerax, a leading wax manufacturer to install a 260kW combined heat and power (CHP) system to provide low cost, lower CO2 electricity and heat.

The company is an intensive user of both electricity and heat for several key processes. They use electricity to power their production lines and heating is required to keep the wax molten whilst it is being processed and to prevent it from solidifying during storage.

The contract for the CHP was signed in September 2024 and was commissioned in January 2025. The investment will be paid back within two years.

Commenting on the installation, Joe Anwyl, Levercor’s CEO, said: “It was a pleasure to work with this family-owned wax manufacturer as they modernise their entire facility. Their investment into low carbon and automation technologies demonstrates the vision and passion of the company’s leadership.

“We installed the system within there months of the order and it was commissioned the following month; it has since been running faultlessly saving the company thousands a week on their energy costs and slashing their CO2 output.

“We are delighted to have been retained by the company for further modernisation projects at their UK facility.”

Kerax was founded in 1962 by Tom Willcox and over the last six decades the Chorley-based company has grown to become one of the leading manufacturers of wax and petroleum-based products. Today, the company turns over £40m and employs 80 people.
